ATSC publishes four new candidate standards

The Advanced Television Systems Committee has announced the publication of four new candidate standards related to the Enhanced-VSB (E-VSB) transmission mode.

The ATSC Technology and Standards Groups is considering specifying advanced video codecs for E-VSB mode. Two candidate standards define video system characteristics for VC-1 and AVC and how closed captions are to be carried with both.

A third candidate standard defines the transport of the AVC codec used in E-VSB transmission. The fourth defines an alternate approach to MPEG-2 video transport.

The candidate standards: CS/TSG-658, CS/TSG-659, CS/TSG-660 and CS/TSG-661 are available at: www.atsc.org/standards/candidate_standards.html.
