Italian broadcasting group Mediaset has made use of Radio Frequency Systems’ fast-track design and delivery of customized RF combining equipment for its latest digital terrestrial television (DTT) network expansion.
RFS designed, manufactured and delivered 28 single-channel UHF combiner expansion modules to Mediaset broadcast sites located across Italy, in less than seven weeks.
The combiner units form the backbone of Mediaset’s second multiplex -a network of between four to six DTT channels. The second DTT multiplex is a result of Mediaset’s acquisition of Canale D.
The merger of the newly acquired channels into Mediaset’s existing national network required custom-built single-channel combiner modules compatible with the broadcaster’s existing combiner systems.
The 28 CA-series combiner expansion modules range in power capacity from 25 watts to 2kW, and were provided in 50mm, 100mm and 150mm sizes. The majority incorporate five-pole filters. One was a six-pole cross-coupled variant. They span the UHF band from channel 21 through to 69.
