The Advanced Television Systems Committee honored Wayne Bretl, senior engineer at LG Electronics’ U.S. research and development subsidiary, Zenith Electronics, May 14 as the 2009 recipient of the Bernard J. Lechner Outstanding Contributor Award.

Bretl is one of the original developers of vestigial side band (VSB) and currently is helping to develop the ATSC Mobile Standard. “His continuous efforts to improve and expand on the capabilities of VSB technology are among the main reasons that the ATSC is honoring Wayne wit the 2009 Lechner award,” said Mark Richer, ATSC president.

The award was presented at this year’s ATSC Annual Meeting in St. Louis.
