KAZT-TV‚ Arizona’s only locally owned, independent TV station, has upgraded its digital facilities to HD with the help of Burst, a Denver-based system integrator. Viewers watch the station’s religious programming via a tower on Mingus Mountain and 12 digital translator facilities, as well as on cable and satellite TV.
Burst’s Prescott office managed the project, which included upgrading the station’s SD digital systems to HD digital and expanding the transmission capabilities from one channel to two. With the upgrade, KAZT now broadcasts one HD and one SD channel to viewers receiving digital television. It also re-establishes KAZT’s two-way video/audio link between their studios in Prescott and Phoenix.
Burst engineers replaced the station's routing switcher and master control equipment and added an HD encoder. They also upgraded the station’s satellite control facilities and installed a new Crispin automation system.
In 2003, Burst upgraded Channel 27, KAZT’s low-power TV station in Phoenix, which included managing the installation of the station’s digital transmitter and antenna. As a result, the broadcast signal was increased from 1kW to 5kW, with an effective radiated power (ERP) of approximately 150kW, in order to reach a wider viewing audience.
