Last month, European mobile TV pioneer KPN launched a new broadcast service, MobieITV, for Dutch mobile subscribers. The new DVB-H-based service offers 10 channels for viewers: Nederland 1, Nederland 3, RTL4, RTL24, SBS6, Jetix/Veronica, MTV Music, Discovery Channel, Xite and Nick Toons. More channels are expected to be included in the offering in the future.

MobieITV is built on Nokia and Nokia Siemens Networks' MBS, an end-to-end headend mobile TV platform that includes:

  • Broadcast Service Manager to control broadcast streams
  • Broadcast Encapsulator for broadcasting IP content over DVB-H and encrypting paid services
  • Broadcast Account Manager for customer billing and tracking digital rights
