Legend Silicon’s new LGS-8G78 demodulator is designed to significantly improve the reception of the digital terrestrial TV broadcast signals as defined by China's GB20600-2006 standard. The demodulator uses diversity, receiving signals from two antennas, to improve reception of weak and noisy signals.

The LGS-8G78 also lends critical support to high-speed mobility, where noise is a major reception quality concern. Integrating the LGS-8G78 demodulator increases HDTV broadcast coverage at greater distances from the originating broadcast towers, indoors in dense urban environments and in moving cars.

The LGS-8G78 is one of the first GB20600-2006 standard demodulators with diversity functionality. When antennas are used as a pair in diversity mode, TV signals in 16-QAM mode (defined in the Chinese GB20600-2006 standard) can be received even though they are nearly 40 percent weaker and twice as “noisy” as the current norm.

A member of the Legend Silicon LGS-8G70 family of GB20600-2006 digital television demodulators, the LGS-8G78 is a complete single-chip demodulator that integrates many features often delivered as discrete components: analog to digital converters, a USB for PC applications and a secure digital input/output interface for mobile cellular applications. The package is a 10mm by 10mm 144-pin ball grid array (BGA).
