Maxim releases integrated mobile TV tuner for Brazilian, Japanese markets

Except for a crystal and cellular rejection filter, Maxim's integrated mobile TV tuner includes all the circuit blocks for receiving 1-seg and 3-seg ISDB-T.
Designed to receive ISDB-T broadcasts in Brazil and Japan, Maxim’s new highly integrated tuner IC, the MAX2163A silicon tuner, combines high performance and low power consumption for 1-seg and 3-seg ISDB-T applications operating in the VHF and UHF frequency bands.
Made using Maxim's SiGe BiCMOS process, which combines SiGe performance with CMOS power consumption, the MAX2163A tuner is ideal for cell phones, portable media players and automotive entertainment systems.
The tuner includes all the circuit blocks needed to receive ISDB-T, with the exception of a crystal and cellular rejection filter. Internal RF blocks include variable bandwidth low-pass filters, optional VHF and UHF tracking filters, and on-chip power detectors that provide the tuner with closed-loop automatic gain control. This control is achieved through a two- or four-wire digital interface, and the IC can be shut down through either the digital bus or a hardware pin.
Accompanied by an evaluation kit, the MAX2163A tuner is available in either a small, 6mm x 6mm, 40-pin TQFN or a custom, 40-bump wafer-level package. Both versions operate in -40 to +85 degrees Celsius extended temperature range.
