Last week, four Wilmington, NC, TV stations did a soft test prior to their Sept. 8 analog shutdown. The 60-second shutdown occurred in silence, without a single viewer reporting a problem.
The stations include WILM, WECT, WWAY and WSFX. The stations have been working to educate local viewers about the early shutdown.
In a separate action, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) has begun a series of educational seminars on the transition called “DTV: Strategies for a Smooth Transition.” The first of the six seminars will be Sept. 24 at 2 p.m.
The live, online seminars are designed to ensure that cable’s technical infrastructure and personnel are prepared for the shutoff date and will address the network and operational aspects of the DTV transition as the process moves from preparation and implementation to maintenance and customer management.
The SCTE said the seminars are aimed at cable-related management, equipment vendors, local government municipalities, technical and nontechnical personnel, contractors, and broadcasters.
