CP Communications, Total RF Productions deliver All-Star Game wireless coverage

CP Communications and Total RF Productions supplied five HD Link wireless camera systems from Vislink News and Entertainment for the MLB All-Star Game July 14 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

The companies provided ESPN, FOX Sports and the MLB Network coverage in high definition carried simultaneously over a shared fiber-optic network. The assignment included the All-Star Game on FOX Sports and ESPN’s Home Run Derby coverage July 13.

The MLB Network provided its own coverage in and around the stadium, including the Red Carpet ceremony.

ESPN used two 7GHz Link HD systems on Grass Valley LDK 6000 cameras, and a system at 2GHz with an LDK 6000 camera. For ESPN Deportes, the companies provided the LinkXP 2GHz system with a Sony E10WS for Spanish-language coverage.

FOX Sports used a similar configuration with two 7GHz Link HD wireless camera systems. The MLB Channel operated two Sony L1500 cameras with Link L1500 HD transmitters.

CP Communications sent the RF signals over fiber using two diversity receivers and then carried the feeds from inside and outside of the stadium back over fiber to the main CP Communications RF truck HDRF2 from which it was distributed by fiber network.

The 7GHz wireless camera systems were used in centerfield to send an HD-SDI signal and audio over fiber to the RF truck. CP Communications developed its own multiplexed system to take the feed from each camera with communications and audio both ways over one fiber connection to the truck.

CP Communications and Total RF Productions used Link’s ASI switching and the latest version of the Link 2134 receiver to take the ASI from two receivers and link to the decoders.
