DiBcom Octopus programmable platform supports ‘once and future’ DTV standards

According to DiBcom, its new Octopus platform promises a flexible solution for handling multiple standards for fixed and mobile TV.
The Octopus is based on a programmable architecture that enables one design to address many existing and planned upcoming mobile TV standards. The first version supports the most widely deployed standards today: CMMB, DVB-T, DVB-H, DVB-SH, ISDB-T (1-seg and full-seg) and T-DMB. Compliance with emerging standards such as ATSC M/H, DVB-T2 and others will follow, according to the company.
The Octopus uses a single programmable, broadcast-specific VSP and handles different standards by adapting the microcode. The VSP engine is integrated with a multimode channel decoder and MAC, memory and a power management unit to optimize power consumption for each standard. Using 65nm technology, the complete solution comes with a multiband RF tuner in two package options, and in either single or diversity (dual-antenna) configurations.
