Trinidad and Tobago telecommunication solutions provider Green Dot has deployed Harmonic’s video delivery solutions to expand terrestrial (DVB-T) television service.

Installed in St. James, Trinidad, the new Harmonic IP-based headend system provides compression and stream processing for more than 80 MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) Green Dot TV channels delivered to tens of thousands of subscribers across the islands.

The Green Dot service is sent to a mountaintop tower via IP microwave link and in turn transmitted throughout Trinidad and Tobago via DVB-T signal. Harmonic's Electra 5400 SD AVC encoders and ProStream 1000 stream processing platform with integrated DiviTrackIP statistical multiplexing technology deliver high-quality variable bit-rate (VBR) services while optimizing bandwidth efficiency. Harmonic's ProView 2900 integrated receiver/decoders (IRDs) are used by Green Dot for content reception, and Harmonic's NMX Digital Service Manager provides Green Dot with a set of tools for configuring, monitoring and managing the full lineup of compressed digital video and audio services.
