MaxLinear introduces hybrid digital/analog TV tuner

In early September, MaxLinear launched the MxL1xxSF terrestrial TV tuner/demodulator system-on-a-chip. That was followed a few weeks later by the ultra-tiny MxL703RM mobile TV tuner chip. Now, the company is introducing the MxL301RF digital/analog silicon tuner that can be used for big- and small-screen, terrestrial and mobile TV applications.

At 5mm x 5mm in a 32-pin QFN package, the MxL301RF features a small footprint and low power consumption: 400mW. The MxL301RF integrates SAW filter function, LNAs, tracking and loop filters.

Beyond its small size and low power requirements, the MxL301RF features support for an extensive set of analog and digital TV standards. These include: ATSC, DVB-T, DVB-H, ISDB-T 13-segment, DMB-T (H), NTSC, PAL and SECAM. In addition, the MxL301RF also supports digital cable standards including ITU-T J.83 Annexes A and C [DVB-C] for Europe, China and India and Annex B [North American Cable], DOCSIS and EURODOCSIS. Standards support is software configurable, allowing OEMs to unify front-end design for all global markets. The MxL301 is sampling now and will be available to key customers in Q4/2009.
