Nagravision, a provider of content protection technology, and Solaris Mobile, a provider of satellite-based networks for mobile services, are joining forces for the development of a system for mobile TV and broadband services.

Solaris Mobile’s new service is aimed at broadcasters, telco operators, the automotive industry, and data and communication providers. It will soon be operating in the new dedicated spectrum S-band, which is located near the UMTS frequencies exclusively reserved for mobile satellite services.

With this S-band payload using the DVB-SH (Satellite services to Handhelds) hybrid satellite/terrestrial standard, the company can provide coverage across Europe. By using additional terrestrial base stations, the signal can reach into tunnels, urban landscapes and also indoor locations.

The Nagra Mobile TV content and service protection platform provides all the functions needed to protect the broadcasted services and content in DVB-SH. It is available now as an extension to existing Nagravision conditional access systems or as a standalone system.
