TANDBERG Television to supply MPEG-4 AVC encoders for ESPN STAR Sports

ESPN STAR Sports (ESS) has selected TANDBERG Television to provide an advanced video compression headend for one of the first MPEG-4 AVC contribution and distribution systems.

The system will let Asia's biggest sports broadcaster more efficiently distribute its programming to cable head-ends across Asia and to manage its satellite transponder usage.

ESPN STAR Sports will use TANDBERG Television's EN8000 MPEG-4 AVC encoders to achieve bandwidth savings while still maintaining picture quality.

The contract will see the deployment of a new TANDBERG Television video headend, including EN8030 standard-definition encoders, at ESPN Star Sports' 73,000sq-ft production facilities and earth station in Singapore.
