Mountain View, CA, September 2013—Anvato, Inc., developer of digital video supply-chain solutions for TV broadcasters, today unveiled an innovative player technology that eliminates the need for encoding to multiple video formats. The Anvato Universal Player is capable of playing Apple HLS on desktop and mobile devices alike, allowing digital broadcasters to reduce their encoding and storage costs by half. The player supports both live streaming and VOD playback.
The First Universal Player for Live and VOD, Mobile and Desktop
The traditional encoding model is inefficient. Master files need to be encoded to multiple formats: Adobe Flash HDS (HTTP Dynamic Streaming) for desktop, Apple HLS for iOS Mobile, not to mention Android formats. All of these formats and renditions take up storage space.
“Monthly encoding and storage bills climb fast”, explains Alper Turgut, CEO of Anvato. “Since Anvato Universal Player can play Apple HLS videos for both mobile and desktop, it removes the need for Adobe HDS. For some customers, it saves up to half a million dollars a year.”
Live Stream Capture and Clip Creation
Anvato’s patented software captures live television broadcast as it airs and allows for real-time video editing. Videos are immediately accessible from Anvato Media Content Platform (MCP) for live streaming or on-demand publication on Anvato’s Universal Player.
Seamless Ad Stitching for a TV Quality Experience
Anvato also offers multi-bitrate player-side ad stitching, for a TV-quality experience on desktop and mobile. “We combine high picture quality with smooth playback. We do so by seamlessly stitching ads to the video content on the server side as well as on the player side. The result is smooth content-to-ad transition and pinpointed targeting” says Mr. Turgut. Anvato’s solution works with any standard video ad server and customers do not need to change their ad-serving infrastructure.
