Ohio’s Lyon Video builds for the future with Calrec

Lyon Video selected the Calrec Sigma digital console for its new HD remote truck.
Lyon Video, a full-service video and film production company serving ABC, ESPN and Fox Sports has selected a Calrec Sigma audio console equipped with Bluefin technology for its newest outside broadcasting truck. Headquartered in Columbus, OH, Lyon anticipates that this new HD unit will be in heavy use for a decade. The firm selected a Calrec Sigma desk with Bluefin technology to accommodate increased demand for 5.1 mixing.
For now, even events that are not recorded in 5.1 benefit from the power of the Sigma with Bluefin. Late in 2006, after only a few weeks in service, Lyon’s new truck was deployed to broadcast the Ultimate Fighting Championship in Las Vegas. The event uses a lot of submixes, easily handled by the console’s deep structure. The Bluefin high-density signal processing system provides 320 channel processing paths packaged as 108 stereo and 104 mono channels, allowing up to 52 full 5.1 surround-sound channels.
Lyon Video also appreciates the Sigma’s user-friendly design and reliability. With many different freelance operators using its mobile units, ease of use was a crucial factor in selecting a console. The Calrec desk is easy to understand and learn, so the firm has had no trouble booking the truck into new gigs. With HD audio now in place, Lyon Video has created a production resource that should remain viable for many years to come.
