Live sound mixing legend Robert Scovill will give the keynote address at the 121st AES convention.

The Audio Engineering Society (AES) has revealed several additional details relating to its upcoming convention in San Francisco. The 121st AES convention will take place Oct. 5-8 at the Moscone Center.

In keeping with the organization’s stated intention of embracing the live sound industry, the convention’s keynote speaker will be legendary touring sound engineer Robert Scovill. Throughout his career, Scovill has mixed such artists as Tom Petty, Prince, Rush and Def Leppard. His address is titled “Live Sound, The Heart And Soul of Professional Audio.”

Historically, AES has provided professionally challenging programming for and by electrical engineers, and the society has scheduled prominent members of the EE community, including Robert Pease, Henry Ott, Bill Whitlock, Marina Bosi and Karlheinz Brandenburg, to provide tutorials and master classes on a variety of topics.

The society has also posted a detailed preliminary calendar of convention events on its Web site. The listing includes workshops, papers, tutorials, technical tours, broadcast, live sound, student and historical and special events that have already been arranged for this year, making it easy for attendees to plan their AES schedules.
