API Model 1608

The new Model 1608 from API adds modern capabilities to classic analog circuitry design.

Automated Processes (API) has announced its latest mixing desk, the API Model 1608 recording console. First seen at the recent AES Convention in New York, the console builds on the design, sound and reputation of the classic API 1604, adding new options to satisfy the demands of modern recording practices. The 1608 features the same 2520 circuitry and is built to the same exacting standards as its flagship Vision and Legacy consoles.

Sharing the form factor of the 1604 but increasing the bus and echo return counts, the standard 1608 is configured with sixteen 548B inputs with 312 mic pre/line inputs and direct output, and also includes twelve 550A three-band equalizers and four 560 10-band graphic equalizer modules. A comprehensive center section features 5.1 monitoring and has space for up to eight additional 500 series modules. Other features include comprehensive VU metering and rear connector patching.

Eight additional inputs are designated as effects returns, bringing the total line input count to 24. The 1608 ships with 16 manual mono input faders and a stereo master fader. Moving fader automation will be available as an option in the future. The API 1608 is available as a fully fitted 16-channel console, with an optional 16-channel expander option.
