To meet specific application needs, the new BP series of shotgun mics from Audio-Technica range from 9in to 22in in length.

At the recent AES, Audio-Technica debuted three new shotgun microphones: the BP4071, BP4071L and BP4073 Line + Gradient condensers, all designed for critical extended-range pickup in broadcasting, film/TV production and theater sound reinforcement applications.

Based on extensive in-the-field research and user input, the BP4071, BP4071L and BP4073 microphones are ideal for documentaries and features, wildlife recording and theater sound reinforcement. These directional mics offer low self-noise and improved resistance to radio frequency interference. Their direct-coupled, balanced output ensures a clean signal even in high-output conditions. All mics use 48V phantom power, have a switchable 150Hz high-pass filter and rugged aluminum alloy housing.

The BP4071 is a 15.55in model designed to excel in dynamic spot miking techniques in studios and theaters and features a low noise floor that is ideal for capture to digital recording systems. At 21.22in, the BP4071L is among the longest shotgun microphones on the market today. It also features a narrow polar pattern and excellent rejection from the sides and rear, making it particularly useful when capturing a sound source while minimizing unwanted background noise or interference. The shortest of the new shotguns, the BP4073, measuring 9.17in and weighing 3.5oz, adds virtually no heft to fish pole or camera-top applications, making it ideal for ENG applications where compact cameras are employed.

All three mics offer a transformerless design; extended frequency response; rugged, lightweight housing; and switchable 150Hz high-pass filter to enable roll-off of low-frequency ambient noise. The microphones are also fully RoHS compliant and come equipped with a stand clamp, windscreen and protective carrying case.
