The DAD AX 24 can now be operated directly from Pro Tools HD with its new MADI I/O card.
Digital Audio Denmark has announced a unique interface for connecting multiple AX 24 AD/DA converters to Pro Tools HD via MADI. The AX 24 is a converter that offers sample rates of up to 384kHz with integrated mic preamp. The DAD HD I/O provides direct connectivity between Pro Tools DSP cards and MADI with two primary ports (32 channels @96kHz each) interfaced to a Digidesign Pro Tools HD card and two coaxial MADI I/O ports.
Each MADI port offers 56 or 64 MADI digital inputs and outputs at up to 48kHz; 28 or 32 MADI digital inputs and outputs at up to 96kHz; and 14 or 16 MADI digital inputs and outputs at up to 192kHz. The DAD HD I/O also offers Word or Super Clock input for synchronization and a USB interface for future firmware updates.
The AX 24 itself is an AD/DA converter with the mic pre integrated within the converter, reducing the number of gain stages. It can be remotely controlled via computer or RS-422 using the proprietary DADman application, which can be installed on either Apple- or PC-based computers, and can be integrated into other systems via Virtual MIDI, MIDI or Ethernet. This option allows the mic preamp to be remote controlled from and stored in audio applications such as ProTools, Euphonix EuCon and the Mackie C4 Midi controller.
