One of Europe’s largest OB vans hits the road with Lawo

The primary audio bay in Prisma OB’s new HD-1 truck is dominated by a Lawo mc²66 digital console.
Swedish production company Prisma OB is a premium league player in the field of mobile broadcasting. The company has been at almost every European mega-event in recent years and is taking its expertise and new HD-1 OB van to the Beijing Olympic Games.
In gearing up for this upcoming challenge, the Swedish company built a top-level HDTV OB van. At 17.5m by 5.4m, the mobile studio provides work space for 32 vision mixers and two sound engineers — making the HD-1 one of the largest OB vans in Europe.
It is not just the sheer size of the HD-1 that is impressive, but also its innovative technology. This is why a Lawo mc²66 5.1 surround-capable mixing console was installed. The console features 2100 inputs and outputs for the central router, a console control surface with 48 + 8 faders and more than 300 DSP channels as well as I/O with 80 HD-SDI embedders and de-embedders. In addition, the mobile stage boxes are connected redundantly to the OB van, providing 32 remotely located mic inputs, 16 digital I/Os and 16 GPIs.
The truck also sports a 12-fader Lawo zirkon radio console as a secondary control surface; Dolby-E and Dolby Digital encoding/decoding; a Reidel intercom system; and digital effects by TC Electronic and Eventide.
