The Lawo crystal is a desktop-sized digital mixer less than 2in tall with full I/O and DSP included.
At the recent IBC2008, Lawo introduced the crystal console, a digital mixing system designed for edit suites and radio broadcast. The mixing control surface, an aluminum chassis standing only 1.2in tall, connects to a 1RU I/O panel via Cat 5 cable, and the power supply is integral. Full DSP and control system are also included. The crystal operates equally well as a stand-alone unit, or can be upgraded with optional touch-screen software.
The crystal can be ordered with between four and 16 100mm faders and will be offered in several preconfigured versions, any of which can be customized as needed. The control surface is designed for ease of use, with backlit buttons and highly legible OLED displays. Onboard DSP capabilities include 16 EQs, eight dynamics units and limiters, and four delays of up to 240ms. An ambient light sensor provides automatic brightness control for the control surface. Analog inputs include four mic and line in and eight line outs. Digital capabilities include four stereo AES3 inputs and outputs, GPIO and optional MADI extension with four ports. The crystal supports 48kHz and 44.1kHz sampling rates.
According to Lawo, the crystal is specifically designed to make it easy for broadcasters to move into digital broadcasting.
