Neutrik has expanded its opticalCON line of preassembled mobile field cables with a cost-effective camera link setup, the low-voltage camera/single-mode hybrid cable. The new version is ideal for any broadcast application including touring staging productions, live performances and mobile broadcast studios/trucks.

Neutrik’s opticalCON cable connectors are preassembled with a choice of six mobile field cables. The range of cables includes hybrid, lightweight mobile field cables with two multi- or single-mode fibers, a four-pole Y split and an SMPTE cable. The new hybrid cable is cost-effective and optimized for camera link systems (ENG/SNG), camera adapter systems, camera cranes and powered downconverter boxes for broadcast applications where only extra low voltage (less than 50VAC) is required.

The IP65-rated opticalCON increases the reliability and maximizes the uptime for fiber-optic connection systems. While this new system is based on a standard optical LC Duplex connection, the opticalCON improves the original design to ensure a safe and rugged connection while enabling up to four copper wires to run power or data signals. A special SMPTE-version1 has been optimized for broadcast applications, which provides an additional ground-shell contact.

To create a simplified installation, one can connect a conventional LC Duplex connector on the rear, which causes the chassis connector to act as a “feed-through.” The opticalCON cable connector comes preassembled with a choice of three mobile field cables, which can be ordered at almost any length.

The all-metal opticalCON uses conventional LC connectors and has a push-pull locking mechanism. It features an automatic sealing shutter, which avoids any transceiver contamination on-site and also helps avoid vandalism. Colored labeling plates are included to identify the fiber mode.
