Albany, NY-based Cotton Hill Studios has celebrated its 10-year anniversary by installing a major system upgrade with the help of Professional Audio Design (PAD) of Rockville, MD. PAD provided the studio with a Trident 80C analog console, a ProTools HD3 Accel system and an Aviom Pro16 monitor mixing system.
Cotton Hill, which specializes in radio and TV broadcast production, commercial and industrial audio/video post production, digital editing and music recording, was founded in the 1980s by Berklee graduate Ray Rettig. The studio’s clients include Goodwill Industries International, Prentice Hall, Burson-Marsteller, Penguin USA and the New York State Lottery Commission.
Rettig called for a large format analog console as a front end to a HD digital recording system, and PAD implemented several modifications to the Trident, including a series of custom-designed cards to convert balanced and unbalanced audio I/O.
Other significant upgrades at the Walters-Storyk-designed facility include a four-output silent-switching speaker selector, as well as a selection of Focusrite and Langevin mic pre/EQ modules and compressors.
