Fair weather with Lectrosonics

The Weather Channel has re-equipped its Atlanta studio facility with new Lectrosonics wireless microphones and IFB systems.

The gear includes three Lectrosonics Venue receiver systems outfitted with 18 VRS receiver modules, 18 UM400 digital hybrid wireless beltpack transmitters, and 18 channels of wireless IFB comprising R1a beltpack receivers and T1 compact transmitters.

According to Chief Engineer, Michael Smereski, the Venue receivers provide enhancements over the current system. The Lectrosonics receivers have a spectrum analysis display, an ability to record mic tests, and the ability to determine dropout spots.

The Weather Channel is also improving and adding to its studio facilities. The channel has decided that instead of having a centralized set of mics in just the main studio, the new mic system, designed in cooperation with Tai Audio, allows any mic to be used in any studio. The electronics of the mic system and its transmitter is centrally located and uses a matrixed antenna system to cover the entire studio complex.
