Heil Sound mics hit CMT

President Bob Heil personally delivered microphones to Country Music Television studios during a recent visit to Nashville.
On a recent business trip to Nashville, Heil Sound founder and President Bob Heil took time out to visit the Country Music Television (CMT) studios to see old friends Shipley Landiss, engineering technical manager, and Jim Gilmore, audio maintenance engineer for the network. Heil also used the occasion to deliver three new PR 22 microphones to be awarded during the Nashville AES Section Spring Mixer competition. The competition is a chance for students at several local colleges to try their hand at mixing tracks with a panel of audio experts as judges. CMT donates their mixing rooms for the event.
While being given a tour of the facilities located in the heart of downtown Nashville, Bob was able to see CMT’s new PR 40s in action as country stars Emerson Drive stopped by for a live in-studio interview. The room features a unique, custom-built desk that is actually two tables that swivel to accommodate a wide variety of layouts.
A total of eight PR 40s are mounted via Heil SM-2 shock mounts onto PL2T booms. Jim Gilmore explained, “We looked at numerous options and finally settled on the Heil PR 40s. We were impressed by the overall quality of the microphone from both construction and sound quality standpoints. The reasonable price was also a consideration. The microphones have been in service for nearly two years, and we have been very pleased with their performance, which has been exceptionally good and entirely trouble-free.”
