Legislative support growing for wireless mic protection

Sandy LaMantia, president and CEO of Shure, praised several legislators supporting H.R. 1320, the Interference Protection for Existing Television Band Devices Act of 2007. The bill, introduced by Representative Bobby L. Rush, D-IL, seeks to protect users of wireless microphone systems and other devices that transmit in the TV band from harmful interference from new devices. Representatives Mark Steven Kirk, R-IL; Shelley Berkley, D-NV; Jim Cooper, D-TN; Jesse Jackson, Jr., D-IL; and Carolyn B. Maloney, D-NY, have pledged their support for the bill.
The legislation requires manufacturers of new unlicensed devices to demonstrate that they do not cause harmful interference to existing products that use the white spaces in the TV band. The FCC would only certify new devices after engineering analysis and testing to assure non-interference with existing users.
