The Recording Academy (formerly the national Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences) is actively lobbying Congress to designate a national Recording Arts Day, similar to acknowledgements given to other professions and industries.
Recording Academy President Neil Portnow will lead a delegation Sept. 7 to Washington D.C. to meet with legislators and policy makers. Portnow cited ongoing issues such as copyrights in a digital landscape, and the recent MGM vs. Grokster Supreme Court ruling, in which the Recording Academy filed an amicus curae brief.
Portnow said the industry needs a community-wide, annual presence in Washington to promote its message that the recording arts and sciences are an essential contributor and vital element of our nation's culture and economy.
