Universal Audio unveils 710 Twin-Finity tone-blending preamp

At AES Europe, Universal Audio announced the 710 Twin-Finity, a single-channel, tone-blending preamp that combines tube and solid-state technologies. The 710 Twin-Finity uses dual signal paths centered on its phase-aligned “tone-blending” knob.

The UA 710 Twin-Finity acts as both a Class A, high-gain microphone preamp and DI box, offering more than 70dB of gain. The tone-blend feature allows the user to dial in a continually variable sonic signature ranging from 100 percent tube to 100 percent solid-state, offering easy access to a myriad of preamp tones ranging from “straight wire” to “creamy” or “crunchy.” The dual-path circuitry includes a 12AX7 vacuum tube.

“The 710 Twin-Finity is a brand new UA design aimed at DAW users who want to upgrade their I/O preamps with our revolutionary ‘tone-blending’ technology combining tone, character and affordability,” said Mike Barnes, Universal Audio’s VP of marketing. “Whether you want retro tubes or modern solid state, the 710 Twin-Finity delivers both a real 300V tube section and transimpedance solid-state preamp path. Add to this the dual-gain feature, and you can go from straight-wire with gain to creamy to crunchy and handle DI duties for active/passive guitars/basses all in one quality box.”

The UA 710 Twin-Finity is designed and built in the United States and will include a single or dual-unit 19in rack-mount kit. The expected global ship date is in July 2008.
