GlobeCast acquires Technicolor post, playout facility

With the integration of the post-production and creative activities of Technicolor in Singapore, GlobeCast can now offer promo/interstitial creation, audio dubbing, subtitling and compliance editing services in addition to playout, program origination and digital MAM services.
Multinational channel operators are increasingly looking to manage the transfer of assets and transmissions across the world by intercontinental video networks. This avoids the inefficiencies of moving videotape around the world, with the overheads of multiple ingest and QC. File distribution to regional facilities ease logistics, with the regional centers adding extra languages and tailoring broadcasts for the local markets.
Many channels are outsourcing distribution and playout to service providers. GlobeCast is one such provider and is expanding its facilities in Asia with the acquisition of Technicolor’s post-production and playout facilities in Singapore. The post-production facility has six Final Cut Pro seats with Xsan shared storage and will move to GlobeCast’s existing facility at Parkview Square, which is set to expand to house the increased range of creative services.
The former Technicolor channel-transmission facility was built to offer multichannel playout and currently airs NBC Universal and SciFi. The system uses Snell Morpheus automation with Omneon and Grass Valley K2 servers.
The GlobeCast playout facility uses Pharos automation. The plan is to integrate all the channels under NETIA content management, which will link to other GlobeCast facilities in London and Miami.
The close collaboration with Technicolor that made this expansion possible comes at a time when GlobeCast has been increasing its range of services in the area of MAM and playout worldwide, now using products from NETIA.
