Australian Caption Centre deploys Sysmedia’s WinCAPS

The Australian Caption Centre (ACC) has recently purchased SysMedia WinCAPS for live captioning at its new Melbourne facility. The center primarily provides captioning services to the country’s Seven Network. Connected to the Seven Broadcast Centre in Melbourne via dark fiber, captioners can work as if on site.

Seven Network captions a wide variety of programming, including live news and current affairs, where the WinCAPS systems are key. The technology is integrated with Avid iNews so that scripted content is made readily available to the captioners. The interface provides a high level of intelligence, so script or running order changes are automatically picked up; the system either updates the subtitle preparation file or alerts staff.

Live input currently uses stenography through the technology supplied by SysMedia, also voice-input compatible.
