IMPALA (International MHEG Promotion Alliance) has welcomed the launch of two platforms using MHEG-5 to power their interactivity.

Freesat, the new BBC and ITV-owned free-to-air satellite platform in the UK, launched in May. The service uses MHEG middleware to deliver fast digital text and enhanced interactivity.

Freeview|HD has launched in New Zealand. The new DTT platform is one of the first live services to use the MHEG-5 middleware technology with MPEG-4 AVC compression.
