SysMedia powers Swedish live translation in subtitles
Jun 9, 2009 3:17 PM
Specialist post-production company Svensk Medietext has used SysMedia’s WinCAPS subtitling software to provide Swedish broadcaster Kanal 5 near real-time translation subtitles for a live entertainment show.
The system uses a short program delay loop of 50-60 seconds. An interpreter listens to the non-delayed program and dictates a translation to a velotypist, who inputs that translated text into a shared, multiuser WinCAPS document in real-time. A subtitle editor then quickly reviews the translated subtitles and corrects any small mistakes. The final subtitler listens to the delayed broadcast and manually cues out each subtitle in synch with the program audio.
