ABC News president David Westin last week told his staff the division would cut 35 jobs but add “people and resources” to the digital side of its business.
In a memo about the cuts, Westin said the news organization had engaged in a two-year effort to evaluate ABC News. Everything considered and done will adhere to three goals, including maintaining the organization’s reputation, building where possible on the strength of its broadcast product and re-designing the news division “to reflect the growing importance of our digital offerings.”
ABC News plans to add personnel in India, Australia, Iran and Brazil, he said in the memo. The restructuring, however, will result in a net loss of 35 positions.
