Katie Couric, anchor of “CBS Evening News with Katie Couric,” will anchor an additional live webcast on election night, Nov. 4, which will commence immediately following CBS News' live broadcast coverage of the election results.
The network’s online strategy for election coverage “is highly complementary to the CBS News broadcast coverage,” said Joe Gillespie, executive VP of CBS Interactive. It will give online visitors an opportunity to ask questions and dig deeper into election issues.
Throughout the past month and half, CBSNews.com has produced 11 live election-related webcasts, including those following the Democratic and Republican National Convention prime-time coverage, the VP debate and the three presidential debates.
The same day the network announced the election night webcast, it also said it had seen a sharp increase in unique visitors and user engagement growing out of its online election coverage. CBS News has seen a 38 percent month-over-month increase in unique visitors and a 57 percent month-over-month increase in visits. Also, CBSNews.com saw a significant 129 percent year-over-year increase in visits to the site and a 57 percent year-over-year increase in unique visitors, along with a 96 percent year-over-year increase in page views.
