On Call Communications to roll out QuickSPOT HD SNG system
Apr 10, 2008 8:05 AM
On Call Communications will debut its QuickSPOT HD IP satellite newsgathering (SNG) system at NAB2008.
Featuring Envivio's new 4Caster HD30 MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) HD video encoder, the system will transmit 720p and 1080i formatted HD video content in data streams as low as 5.25Mb/s.
On Call's integrated hardware and satellite service lets broadcasters contribute HD news at a lower cost compared to conventional HD satellite transmissions. QuickSPOT users can choose from on-demand, space segment billed per minute or prescheduled service. HD access is as low as $10 per minute.
On Call selected Envivio for its video quality with low latency. The new Envivio HD30 can send high-quality HD feeds at data rates similar to those used currently for MPEG-2 SD services. Over DVB-ASI interfaces, the system achieves a latency of 300ms, which makes the service appropriate for interactive news applications.
