WANE-TV delivers local news with Avid technology

In addition to the 25-seat Avid iNEWS system, the WANE-TV newsroom includes an 8TB Avid Unity ISIS shared-storage solution.
WANE-TV, the CBS affiliate in Fort Wayne, IN, delivers 22 hours of news each week using a broadcast workflow based on a tapeless environment made up of production, storage and networking systems from Avid Technology.
The station’s promotions department had been using Media Composer systems for more than 10 years. For 13 years, the news team used Avid’s legacy NewStar newsroom computer system to create scripts and manage rundowns.
The existing NewStar system was upgraded to the Avid iNEWS newsroom computer system, then an all-Avid newsgathering system was put in place.
In addition to the 25-seat iNEWS system, the WANE newsroom setup now includes an 8TB Unity ISIS shared-storage solution, an iNEWS ControlAir automation-assist system, four NewsCutter Adrenaline editing systems, 10 licenses of the Instinct journalist-editing workstation, two AirSpeed playout servers, and Media Composer software with Mojo SDI hardware. Additionally, the station’s promotions department includes a Windows-based Media Composer Adrenaline system plus two Media Composer software setups, each with Mojo SDI hardware.
All of these systems are linked by an Interplay system, which manages the news production processes. It integrates directly with the editing systems and the Unity ISIS shared-storage solution to manage and track projects while providing simultaneous desktop access to digital media used by WANE reporters, photographers, producers and promotions staffers.
