The new redesign of CBSNews.com builds on the success the network enjoyed using its Web site to supplement its coverage of the 2008 presidential campaign and election.

CBS News has unveiled a redesign of its CBSNews.com Web site offering a completely new look and more original and exclusive content from CBS News as well as access to live coverage of breaking news and special events.

The redesign builds on CBSNews.com's recent success using its Web site to present additional content online to add greater depth to its on-air newscasts, including during the 2008 U.S. presidential campaign and election. The redesign also gives Web visitors the opportunity to interact with Katie Couric, anchor and managing editor of the “CBS Evening News with Katie Couric.”

According to Joe Gillespie, executive VP of CBS Interactive Technology and News, the goal of the redesign was to build a site that “clearly identifies” the most important breaking news stories and highlights all CBS News programs.

The CBSNews.com home page features a visual carousel of the day's top stories, with the latest, most significant and most popular headlines prominently featured. From the home page, users can access the site's original content, including breaking news, original Web series and blogs.

As part of the new CBSNews.com, BlackBerry users can now access the site.
