JVC rolls out new HD palm-sized consumer camcorder

JVC has launched a new, compact HD consumer camcorder that combines a 3-CCD image sensor, HD 1440 x 1080 recording and embedded 60GB hard disk storage.

The new HD Everio GZ-HD3 records to a built-in hard drive and offers point-and-shoot simplicity in a palm-sized camcorder.

The HD Everio GZ-HD3 relies on three 16:9 progressive scan CCDs for 1440 x 1080 HD recording. The camcorder’s lens block also uses CCD pixel shift technology to increase horizontal and vertical resolution. The camcorder uses a Konica Minolta HD lens and can record in 1440CBR mode at 1440 x 1080i resolution and a data rate of about 27Mb/s, delivering an HDV-compatible stream. In this mode, the camcorder’s 60GB hard drive offers about five hours of record time.
