KMGH-TV erects temporary HD tower in time to transmit Super Bowl

KMGH-TV, the ABC affiliate in Denver, raised a temporary transmission tower atop a downtown building in time to transmit ABC Sports’ high-definition production of Super Bowl XL last Sunday from Ford Field in Detroit.

The step was taken to improve the station’s HD coverage in Denver before the high-profile sporting event because efforts to erect a permanent HD transmission presence on Lookout Mountain outside the city remain stalled.

KMGH is part of the Lake Cedar Group, which also includes CBS 4, 9 News and UPN 20. The group is seeking to build a new HD tower and transmission facility but has run into opposition from homeowners, environmentalists and the city of Golden, CO.

KMGH erected its temporary tower on top of the Republic Plaza in downtown Denver to provide HD coverage to the greater metropolitan area.
