Those attending this year’s IBC morning presentation on 3-D production and post, Monday, Sept. 14, will walk away with a thorough understanding and a good sense of how to proceed, says Phil Streather, chairman of the program.

Phil Streather, CEO of Principal Large Format, a pioneering giant-screen movie production company, will lead the morning program of the D Cinema Day, Monday, Sept. 14, at IBC2009.

The topic is 3-D stereoscopic production and post, and Streather has assembled an impressive group of 3-D experts to walk attendees through the entire range of 3-D moviemaking, from previsualization to final editing.

I interviewed Streather for the most recent edition of Broadcast Engineering’s “IBC Update,” but as so often is the case, I had more interesting material than time would allow for.

In this podcast, I circle back to some of that unused material to shed light on the state of 3-D worldwide, to discuss mirrored 3-D camera rigs and to learn what Streather hopes to accomplish with his session.

Along with the benefits, come a number of challenges. One of the biggest challenges is a mechanism to recover lost data in real-time. This paper will attempt to shed some light on the inner workings of the real-time data recovery mechanism: Pro-MPEG Code of Practice #3 Forward Error Correction (CoP#3 FEC). Read Now
