Twenty-four hour news channel NY1 News, the flagship news channel for Time Warner Cable’s Local News Division, has selected a Dalet News Suite system as its newsroom and automation system.

The Dalet News Suite along with Panasonic P2 formats and the Omneon Spectrum media servers and MediaGrid storage will help NY1 streamline its newsgathering and production activities and get news to air faster and more efficiently. The workflow will integrate the entire production, playout and archiving operations, providing a single digital platform and interface for logging and searching materials, editing packages and planning distribution for cable TV, Web and eventually mobile networks.

NY1 News employs a news wheel system that repeats news stories every hour. The standard wheel begins with a NY1 Minute, followed by a brief weather forecast and the first group of news reports. All-day coverage is supplemented with live news, sports and public affairs programs. The media asset management platform DaletPlus integrates and drives the entire workflow, facilitating the production and playout of the “NY1 Wheel” format. DaletPlus offers production and playout capabilities with centralized ingest, media management and editing tools.

The new NY1 digital workflow will be based on the Panasonic P2 acquisition format and include Omneon ingest servers with Dalet’s logging tools, flexible metadata forms, and fast search and browse engine.

A complete Dalet newsroom system provides editorial tools for planning, rundowns, wires, and scripts. Desktop editing, shot selection and package assembly are achieved using Dalet MediaCutter. Craft editing and effects work are done in Apple Final Cut Pro edit suites using the Dalet Xtend feature. Remote collaboration is made in real time with Dalet InterWeb, a Web-based portal that brings Dalet News Suite production capabilities to the field.

At the heart of this workflow, Omneon MediaGrid provides shared production storage to all editors, fully integrated and managed by DaletPlus for easy data migration. Dalet OnAir controls video playout via Omneon Spectrum servers as well CGs and teleprompters. Two Omneon MediaDeck integrated media servers will provide backup news playout under the control of Dalet.
