New Dallas Cowboys stadium to offer HD video experience

At the NAB Show, Sony Electronics announced its participation in a massive project to deliver an HD video experience to fans visiting the new Dallas Cowboys’ new stadium, which is due to be finished in June.
The installation will include more than 3000 Sony LCD displays located in luxury suites, concourses and concession areas, offering fans viewing options that extend beyond the action on the field. A range of Sony HD production equipment, including studio cameras, optical camcorders and production switchers, will help operators produce and send content to these displays.
Fans will be able to view replays, watch interviews with players and coaches and also see content produced exclusively for the stadium’s in-house TV network, according to the team.
Jerry Jones, owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, announced the scope of the project during a Sony press conference April 19 on the eve of the NAB Show. Besides feeding the Sony LCD monitors, the new HD production center will feed HD video to 72ft video screens suspended above the center of the field for replays and interviews, he said.
The Sony displays around the new stadium will be used to show game content and other Cowboys-produced video and advertising elements. The Sony HD monitors will range in size from 19in to 70in. They will be connected via RS-232 interface to a Cisco IPTV network for digital signage and other content delivery applications.
The stadium’s new HD control room has a Sony MVS-8000G production switcher and BVM and LUMA LCD displays, with Sony HDC-1450 cameras, XDCAM HD PDW-700 camcorders and PDW-HD1500 decks. The equipment will be used to capture and produce video for playback during games on the stadium’s LED screens and the HD displays throughout the venue.
