FrontNiche has introduced a new professional multiformat HD/SD set-top box in a 19in rack-mount configuration that takes advantage of DVB-S2 modulation and MPEG-4/H.264 AVC compression codec with videogarde encryption.

The product is a modified Thomson DSI8215WDR unsubscribed STB that has been configured for HDSDI O/P with embedded audio. It includes a 300GB hard disc (160GB usable).

Capable of HD and SD decoding in both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC formats, the box facilitates the migration from SD broadcast to HD systems. It records 80 hours of SD and 30 hours of HD, and features an SD-to-HD upscaler and HD-to-SD downscaler.
