New York City-based post-production boutique Goldcrest Post recently received its second Quantel Pablo 2K digital intermediate and color-grading system. The company also added Genetic Engineering, Quantel’s collaborative infrastructure that allows workstations to share storage to boost workflow efficiency.

In 2004, Goldcrest Post New York opened its new 2K/HD digital intermediate theater. In 2006, Pablo became the heart of this theater, providing clients with 2K data or HD online editorial and color-correction services to a 2K large-screen digital cinema projector.

The first Pablo was installed to tackle the Ken Burns WWII epic documentary, “The War.” Today, the newest Pablo is being used concurrently on Burns’ six-part S-16mm documentary, “National Parks,” and James Ivory’s new 35mm feature, “The City of Your Final Destination.”

Much of Goldcrest Post’s work consists of mixed media as well as solely film or tape-based projects. The company typically uses one of the Pablos as a conform system, while most of the digital intermediate effects and color-correction work takes place on the second Pablo in the DI theater. All of the high-resolution media is instantly shared via Genetic Engineering.
