Vitec to offer on-site and online service in Beijing

At the Beijing Olympics, the Vitec Group will offer service support for its broadcast clients throughout the Games. A variety of Vitec camera support products will be used, including Vinten, Sachtler, Autoscript and OConnor.

The company has established 24/7 service support for all of its clients working at the Olympics. This covers not only rapid response to all enquires received and technical backup through service teams stationed locally in Beijing, but also client service at all levels. Whether it’s troubleshooting on-site or a really fast turnaround on spares, clients will have access to a dedicated service team hotline.

Alfacam monitors HD sports production with JVC

Belgium-based Alfacam has installed 566 JVC Professional monitors in its HDTV production vans, many of which will be used as part of Alfacam's HD coverage of the upcoming 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Alfacam is in the process of building a new production van called the OB32, which will be used by European HD channels. The OB32 truck will be equipped with a monitor wall comprised of 32 JVC display monitors. All CRT program and LCD production monitors on the 18m production truck will be provided by JVC.

ESPN’s U.S. Open playoff the most-viewed golf cable telecast ever

ESPN’s coverage of the 2008 U.S. Open playoff on Monday, June 16, was the most-viewed golf telecast in cable TV history. The numbers included a 4.2 household rating and 4,055,000 household impressions, representing 4,762,000 viewers. Previously, ESPN’s coverage of the 2008 Masters, which delivered a 3.1 household rating, held the record, averaging 3,014,000 households.

In addition, ESPN’s coverage of the first two rounds of this year’s U.S. Open was the most-viewed combined telecasts since 2000. The two-day coverage averaged a 1.8 household rating and 1,780,000 impressions.

The audiences watching ESPN’s U.S. Open coverage on ESPN.com were also impressive, with the Monday playoff alone generating nearly 2.4 million visits and 10.7 million page views.
