Kordia uses Advent flyaway HD uplinks

Advent's 1.9m Mantis Flyaway kit facilitates a secure HD uplink within minutes of setup.
Kordia, a New Zealand-based provider of customized broadcast and telecommunications networks and services, has purchased two 1.9m Mantis antenna systems from Advent Communications for its clients. The Mantis systems will help provide coverage of Sky Sports in HD.
Kordia also operates the country’s national communications networks as well as broadcast networks for customers such as Radio New Zealand and TVNZ. Until now, Kordia has used point-to-point microwave links; this is the first venture with mobile satellite uplinks. The new Advent equipment will allow Kordia to offer the new HD uplinks to other broadcasters around the Asia-Pacific region.
The comprehensive package, purchased from The Bridge Networks (Advent Communications' distributor in New Zealand) includes the new DVE5000 HD/SD L-band digital video exciter.
The equipment was first tested on June 21 at the 2008 IVECO Series ruby match and will be employed again on July 5 to broadcast live from the Phillips Tri Nations Rugby Test match, in Wellington.
Merv Brooks, field services and operations business development manager at Kordia, said he selected the Mantis Flyaways because it was the only system with all cases weighing about 70.5lbs (32kgs). This allows his crews to carry the equipment with them as checked-in luggage on an airplane.
