LiveWire Remote Recorders, a Toronto, Canada-based remote recording and mix facility owned and operated by veteran engineer Doug McClement, is using HDX800 internal FireWire drives from Avastor to capture its live recordings (both in the studio and on the road).

The HDX800 drives include external interfaces for Firewire 800 and 400, as well as USB 2.0 connectivity. LiveWire operates a recording truck as part of its Digital Tourpack services that is equipped with a new 96 input Solid State Logic C200 digital console, accompanied by 96 tracks of Protools HD.  There are also dual Tascam X-48 units for 96-track backup.

The drives also include an internal 90V-240V power supply with an IEC power cord, an ultra-quiet cooling fan and a rugged Lockbox packaging that protects the drives when transporting and shipping masters to clients.

LiveWire Remote Recorders also offers equipment rentals and The Digital Air Pack, a complete 48-track digital audio system housed in 10 flight cases that can be flown anywhere in the world. Premier Magnetics, a major distributor in the Toronto area, supplied the drives.

LiveWire Remote Recorders has captured such historic concerts as Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Live at El Mocambo” in 1983 as well as U2’s performance with Mary J. Blige during the Hurricane Katrina benefit in 2005.
