QuStream signal routing selected for latest MIRA Mobile HD truck

Veteran mobile production company MIRA Mobile TV is building a new HD production truck based on QuStream’s HD video routing, AES and analog audio routing and signal processing equipment. Based in Portland, OR, and Vancouver, British Columbia, MIRA Mobile TV provides high-end video production services for live sports events throughout the United States and Canada.

MIRA’s newest 48ft truck (with a 35ft expando side) is the company’s eighth in its fleet and the second truck to use QuStream technology. It’s slated to roll out in April 2009 for Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.

M8HD’s infrastructure will feature 1080p capability due to the installation of QuStream’s 3Gb/s routing and signal-processing architecture. With full fiber I/O capability, the Cheetah router will operate in side-by-side, dual-feed mode with another QuStream-equipped truck‚ MIRA’s M7HD. MIRA also is opening a field shop in the Bay Area, where both the M7HD and M8HD will be housed and maintained.

The Cheetah DRS audio router enables signals to be distributed throughout the truck in multiple 1RU modules, meaning the crew no longer has to run hundreds of audio cables back and forth throughout the truck. Signal sources and destinations are now connected via redundant Cat 5 cable, which saves a significant amount of space and weight.

The new truck’s routing backbone is the Cheetah 288XE HD/MR 288 x 576 video router populated with 208 inputs and 320 outputs with a combination of both copper and fiber I/O and the Cheetah DRS distributed audio router populated with 128 AES inputs and outputs and 128 analog stereo inputs and outputs. The Cheetah 288XE video router provides the SD/HD routing needed today and 1080p routing needed in the future with its 3Gb/s capability. Both routers are under the control of a redundant control system. QuStream’s Integrity series, under network control, will handle signal processing.
