Sterling Davis speaks out about white space devices

There is no need to rush in authorizing white space devices before a thorough review of the FCC Office of Engineering and Technology report on phase two device testing has been conducted, says Cox Television VP of engineering Sterling Davis.
On Nov. 4, the FCC is tentatively scheduled to vote on rules authorizing the use of unlicensed devices in TV band white spaces.
Last week, Sound Off spoke with MSTV President David Donovan, who offered an industrywide perspective on what is likely to happen if these devices are authorized by the commission. This week, Sterling Davis, VP of engineering for Cox Television, addresses white space devices from the perspective of someone who is ultimately responsible for the technical operation of 15 TV stations.
Given his position, Davis not only can speak to the potential impact on over-the-air TV transmission and wireless mic use, but also on that of mobile TV devices envisioned by the Open Mobile Video Coalition. This week’s Sound Off is presented as an audio podcast.
